Antonio Carmona is a 24-year old Mexican-American visual artist. (b.1999)
A current student at The University of Texas at Austin, pursuing a BFA in Studio arts. Antonio focuses on painting and drawing to tell stories. Growing up in Utah gave him a unique perspective on religion, self expression and a profound appreciation for nature. Pulling from these experiences, his work tells stories of the human condition with a focus on the spiritual aspects of life.
A common theme through his work is his ability to loosely define figures, not focusing on the exact details but rather focusing on shadows and light giving the viewer a broader understanding of the story at hand. In his non objective work, Antonio leads the eye through the canvas by way of his vigorous swipes of the brush, subtle symbolism, and palette choice. Some of his inspirations include: Cy Twombly, Vincent Valdez, Yoshitomo Nara, Claude Monet, Rembrandt, as well as Ancient Greek and Renaissance era sculptures.
Antonio is currently exploring the importance of Cactus through the lens of a 1st generation Mexican American, working from life, and further exploring clay sculpture.
